High hopes for HTC Android devices at Mobile World Congress 2012 (Appolicious)

HTC?s been in a tough spot this past year, losing ground to other Android device makers like Samsung. But this year?s Mobile World Congress could start to turn things around for the handset maker, with word of four new device launches at the Barcelona event, held later this month. It?s likely we?ll see the HTC Edge quad-core phone revealed at MWC, giving HTC its first ?first? since the debut of the HTC Dream. Sony?s also revamping its lineup with the new Xperia Active Billabong edition, while Samsung officially confirmed the Galaxy Nexus White, hitting stores Feb. 13.

HTC Edge

With high hopes for MWC, HTC?s expected to unveil the HTC Edge, the world?s first quad-core phone. First hitting the rumor mill back in November, the Nvidia Tegra 3-powered processor would give the 1.5GHz quad-core boost to a rapidly growing stream of robust smartphones. The Edge supposedly boasts a 4.7-inch display with 720p HD resolution, an 8-megapixel camera with a backlit sensor and a 28-millimeter, f/2.2 lens. With 1GB of RAM and only 0.4 inches thick, the HTC Edge is also expected to have LTE support and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Other HTC devices we may see at MWC include the Quattro tablet, another quad-core device, the Ville (which would also sport ICS), and the mid-range Primo.

Sony Xperia Active Billabong edition

Sony?s known for its niche appeal with the Xperia line, and it?s targeting a sporty crowd with the Active Billabong edition. It will come preloaded with exclusive content, including Billabong screen savers, Billagong-branded games and applications. The device itself isn?t at all different from the Xperia Active revealed several months back, aside from the branded content. You?ll get a single-core 1GHz processor, Gingerbread 2.3, a 3-inch Reality display and a 5-megapixel camera. Sony could have an ace up its sleeve however, with word of a device named the Xperia Sola. No details on the device yet, just the lead that the handset name recently appeared at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus (White)

Samsung?s having quite a time in the UK, releasing a pink Galaxy S II just before Valentine?s Day, and now a white Galaxy Nexus, hitting stores Feb. 13. The color variant of the Galaxy Nexus will be functionally identical to the GSM model, not the 4G LTE version. Both 16GB and 32BG versions of the white Galaxy Nexus will be available. It features a 4.65-inch 720p Super AMOLED HD display, a 5-megapixel 1080p-capable camera and HSPA+ connectivity. No confirmation on the price, though it?s expected to cost about $789 for the unlocked 16GB model.
